I was born in 1949 and have been a Republican since I was in 6th grade. If there was mail in ballots back then I would have declared myself a democrat and would have been allowed to vote. You have to remember that back then Franklin D. Roosevelt had been president and was in office when the Great Depression ended and to many of the “adults” thought that he walked on water and told their children to always vote democrat and 70 years later they still are doing it. I was born in 1939 and everyone around me was a Democrat. I went into the military at 17 and found out that I was not a Democrat so when I got old enough to vote I did it as a Republican and that has never changed and I am now at 86 years of age.
