At Thursday’s press conference, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi dramatically called for more security, fearing the “enemy within.”
Her rhetoric only meant she wasn’t happy with how the conservatives want to carry firearms inside the Capitol legally.
“I do believe — and I have said this all along — that we will probably need…more security for members when the enemy is within the House of Representatives, a threat that members are concerned about in addition to what is happening outside,” said the house speaker.
Pelosi then acted as if an armed conflict is about to happen in Congress only because some lawmakers would exercise their Second Amendment rights.
“It means that we have members of Congress that want to bring guns on the floor and have threatened violence on other members of Congress,” Pelosi added.
Pelosi continued that not only President Trump incited an insurrection but also kept fanning the flame. She said that members of the House are endangered.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez likewise pushed for added security and claimed to have not attended President Joe Biden’s inauguration because she didn’t feel secure around her colleagues.
“I think we also had genuine security concerns,” New York socialist Ocasio-Cortez told CNN’s Chris Cuomo. “We still don’t yet feel safe around other members of Congress,” AOC added.
AOC also said that a “very considerable amount” of House members still don’t feel safe around their colleagues ever since the rioters stormed the Capitol. She also mentioned that Harties tried to bring a firearm inside the House chamber.
“The moment you bring a gun onto the House floor in violation of rules, you put everyone in danger,” the NY rep said.
