So much for unity, the Democrats again sing another tune as they suggest jailing President Trump. Apparently, the leftists believe the best way to unite the country and reach out to more than 70 million Trump supporters is to charge their leader.
Attorney General Karl Racine of Columbia claimed city prosecutors could charge Trump due to statements “that clearly encourage, cajole” or otherwise “get people motivated to commit violence.” Trump’s supporters marched the US Capitol in early January.
Racine told MSNBC, “Let it be known that the office of attorney general has a potential charge that it may utilize.” The Columbia AG claimed Trump could face a misdemeanor having a maximum jail time of six months.
“It’s law in DC since 2011. It makes illegal the statements of individuals that clearly encourage, cajole, and otherwise, you know, get people motivated to commit violence,” Racine commented.
He also added that his office currently collaborates at a high level with the federal prosecutors, revealing, “The federal charge carries far more jail time.”
According to Racine, Trump’s conduct prior, during, and after the mob’s storming at the Capitol is relevant.
The US House impeached Trump last week, with charges of “incitement of insurrection” over the fatal riot on January 6. Ten Republicans joined the liberals who said he had to be held accountable.
And again, the leftists discuss pursuing Trump’s conviction until after Biden’s first 100 days in the White House.
Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham warned the GOP against jailing Trump, especially after he steps down from office. Graham claimed the move would be “disastrous.”
“We impeach the president today without any evidence. It’s just sheer hatred. If this becomes the norm, be careful what you wish for today. Under this theory, the radical left — if you can impeach a president after they’re out of office, why don’t we impeach George Washington? He owned slaves. Where does this stop?” Graham said.
The senator advised his Republican colleagues to stand firm for the idea – whether they favor Trump or not, that he’s not above the law. However, impeachment is political. He explained that what the others are planning is impeaching the president without any witnesses or evidence.
“How do you survive as a president in the future? This will be an attack on the presidency in perpetuity. Should we impeach Barack Obama because, for 24 hours, he never lifted a finger to help those under siege in Benghazi? Where does this stop?” Graham said.
