An incident that took place Sunday morning at the Cracker Barrel in Duncan, South Carolina has a man facing multiple charges in court.
The Duncan Police Department officials said that the man faces voyeurism as one of the multiple charges against him.
According to Duncan Police Chief Carl Long, a 15-year-old girl had noticed a man looking at her from underneath a bathroom stall while she was in the women’s bathroom. According to her, she had noticed something moving at her feet and realized that it was a man’s head, coming from the stall right beside hers.
As soon as the girl left the bathroom, she told her father, who immediately fetched a female employee to get the man out of the bathroom.
According to witnesses, the victim wasn’t the only girl in the bathroom at the time.
“I’ll never forget the way they looked after,” a witness said. “They were traumatized.” Really, who would expect to see a man’s head come from underneath a bathroom stall?
The peeping tom was identified as Douglas Lane from Charlotte, North Carolina. He’s 53 years old, and a registered sex offender. He has been charged for peeping at least eight times before this incident.
To Lane’s surprise, the girl’s father was waiting for him outside the door to the women’s bathroom.
“The guy came running, sprinting out the front door with a very bloody nose,” a witness said.
According to Long, Lane tried to run but was stopped by other fathers who were at the scene of the incident. They were aware of what Lane did, and reportedly helped tackle him in the parking lot. They restrained him until the police arrived.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found Lane’s phone on the bathroom floor and took it as evidence.
According to the police chief, Lane’s multiple charges include voyeurism, possession of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
During his hearing on Monday, Lane was issued a $2,000 surety bond with the condition that he be closely monitored by GPS.
When asked why he was in the women’s bathroom, Lane said he had to use the bathroom and did not realize that he was in the wrong one until he sat down. Really?
Lane’s initial court hearing is scheduled to be at 9 AM on the 12th of November. Before then, the judge ordered that he move to South Carolina but have no contact with the victim or her family.
The investigation is still ongoing, and additional charges can still be filed against him.
