Israel was not the dramatic escalation. the dramatic escalations were:
1. hamas invading Israel murdering, raping and kidnapping thousands of people.
2. Hezbollah shooting rockets into Israel from Lebanon.
3. Iran shooting rockets into Israel and Jordan from Iran.
Israels response to each of these was self defense not escalation.
