I grew up in a mixed race home, in a military family. I am of Mexican heritage on my mother’s side and German from my father’s. I never knew what racism was or even that I was mixed, until we moved to San Antonio Texas, around a large community of Mexican Americans. I was constantly harassed for not being able to speak Spanish, and told by the other Mexican kids that I am not Mexican if I cannot speak Spanish. Long story short, I never dealt with racism from the white side of my heritage, but from the Mexican side it was never ending. Minorities for sure can be racist, and some are the worst among them.
Kinda hard to be racist against a “brown” person you never knew was “brown”. Why would she not just say “because I am of Indian heritage?” Because it fits the narrative much better to include a word that most minorities can tie themselves to.
