Watched most of the press conference yesterday and the sheriff actually did focus not on guns being the problem, but children resorting to gun violence the second they have a disagreement. He was expressing his frustration with guns because of the absurdity that a 14- and 15-year-old started shooting over something minor and how this seems to be too common of an occurrence.
Needless to say, they also reported that everyone in the house knew both of these scholars carried weapons, so why they wouldn’t expect something like this to eventually happen is beyond me. The uncle attempted to break up the fight, then the sister came out to help (with her child in a carrier). She was shot and dropped the baby (who was unharmed) and the older brother came out, saw his sister shot, and then shot his brother before threatening to kill himself. That was why he’s in a mental health facility and not a detention center. I hate to blame the mother for not addressing the situation herself, but the fact that they ended up like this probably shows she wouldn’t have been able to do anything even if she tried. There is not a father to be seen in this picture.
None of these kids understand how fortunate they are. None of them have any gratitude or compassion. Not even for their family. Even on Christmas. Greg’s right, this is a “Cultural Problem!”
