Turn the law abiding home owner loose. The 18 year olds got exactly what they deserved. One won’t ever do that again and two of them will think twice. The home owner did what he should have done.
I think the surviving teens should be held in jail until the investigation is finished. Otherwise, the man should be released. Either the kids were committing a crime, the man was committing a crime, or the kids were just stupid and the man was reckless.
An investigation is needed. Meanwhile, if the man is held for suspicion of committing a crime, the kids should be held for suspicion of committing a crime.
